Construction of the steel superstructure at the student union continues at a furious pace. Barton Malow steel workers have almost completed the entire northern side of the four story portion of the union with the help of a gigantic Manitowoc crawler crane capable of lifting 250 tons at a time. Once the north side is finished, the 350′ tall crane will move to its final position near Canaveral Hall to finishing lifting the final pieces of steel into place. In all, about 6,100 pieces of steel will make up the structure of the student union.
